We are getting closer and closer to another great NCAA Football and NFL season, and some people may call this a disease, but I find myself checking out all of the football websites and preseason magazines getting ready for this season! 2008 looks to be just as great as last season for both the NCAA and NFL. While immersing myself with football, I found myself wondering who was going to be under the most pressure in 2008. Whether it’s a program, a team, a player, a coach, or an organization in general, there is going to be extreme pressure to perform and live up to what their expectations are. Thus I have created my own list of who needs to turn it on this 2008 football season for both NCAA and the NFL.
1. THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES
The first was an obvious choice for me, and that would be The Ohio State University! Big Ten Championships are expected now in Columbus, and now it’s always the expectation of winning a National Championship, which has been easier said then done for the Buckeyes. With players such as James Laurinaitis, Malcom Jenkins, and Brian Robiskie coming back, this year’s Buckeye team will have plenty of upper-classmen to lead in 2008. Not to mention you have arguably the best running back in the nation with Chris Wells leading the offense, which has a very efficient quarterback in Todd Boeckman.

Also the genius in the sweater vest Jim Tressel should have learned from the past two years and will have the right game plan to make three times a charm. The make or break will be against USC September 13th in the Coliseum, but this Buckeye team should be more than up for the challenge. As for everyone who says the Buckeyes don’t play anyone because of how weak the Big One plus Ten conference is, it is not Ohio States fault that they take three steps forward every year, where as the other programs take five steps backwards. Has anyone from the SEC accepted a game against USC? This will be the best year Ohio State has to finally finish the job and win the National Championship!
2. Rich Rodriguez
Now yes, he did just get a new job, and the first year is always tough, but things have not been kind to the new man running “The Big House” in Ann Arbor. Michigan Alum haven’t been happy with what they have seen from Rodriguez, and with Michigan not only were unsuccessful in securing top recruit Terrelle Pryor, but The Sweater Vest and Ohio State are already 1-0 against the Rodriguez era with Pryor committing to Ohio State. Yes, it will take time to develop the new face of Michigan, unfortunately Rodriguez doesn’t have that luxury. After last year’s dismal season that did end on a high note with Michigan defeating Florida in the Capital One Bowl, Michigan fans want to see immediate results, and I mean immediate. Rich Rodriguez will definitely be under the spotlight in Ann Arbor.
3. Oklahoma Sooners
People get on Ohio State for their past two appearances in their National Championship games, but no one has done worst in their respective bowl games recently than the Sooners of Oklahoma. The Sooners have lost four out of their past five bowl games by a combined score of 181-120, with their four losses being in BCS bowls. They have been strong in the regular season winning the Big 12 Title last year, but their poor bowl performances have made “Boomer Sooner” rather restless, especially since Coach Bob Stoops teams have never been under any criticism regarding mental toughness.
One thing that will help the Sooners is that they have a very good quarterback in sophomore Sam Bradford, who completed almost 70% of his passes with 36 touchdowns and only 8 interceptions. Oklahoma should be a heavy favorite to win yet another Big 12 Title, but it will be another disappointment if they lose yet another BCS Bowl Game.
4. Clemson Tigers
Ok, this has to be it. This has to be the year that Clemson wins the ACC Title right? They have arguably the best running back duo in the nation with James Davis and CJ Spiller, analysts have fallen in love with quarterback Cullen Harper, and according to Rivals, Clemson brought in the 12th strongest recruiting class in the nation.

However, the same thing was said about Clemson last year, and with most of the ACC rebuilding this season, there should be no excuse on why Clemson should not win the ACC! Clemson does have a tough start against Alabama this season, and even though they only have four road games on their schedule, those games are against Wake Forest, Boston College, Florida State, and Virginia. This is Clemsons best chance, but they will have to “Step Their Game Up”, and not lose the one game that no one expects them to lose.
There’s who I think needs to make a big impact this years NCAA Football Season and leave the scrutiny that haunts them. Next week I will unveil the NFL players, teams, coaches and franchises who need to “Step Their Game Up” in 2008! Have anyone else in mind? Email me at ryan@sportsbuzzradio.com!
